I am a M&M - Looks like a Peanut M&M

The Cheques in the Mail

It is official. I dropped my registration cheque in the mail box today. That means that I have made the financial obligation to do the half marathon now. It was kind of scary when I dropped it in the mail box and there was no turning back.

If you are curious I will be wearing Bib # 6922. I figure that it has my brother's birth date in it so that is a good sign. Now if only 69 meant anything....what it that?...it does?...it means WHAT!!....That's digusting you perverts.

In Other News:

I ran 7km on Monday, 10.8 Km on Tuesday, and 4.2 Km today in order to get to 75Km for the month of January. It was a tough go but I did it. Bonus is I did 10 Km in about 59 Minutes, so under the 60 minute mark. The down side is I did not meet the goal of Core Workout Twice a week.

I did not weigh myself in January. I will step on the scale tomorrow and see how I did. I did not have a great month of eating but I did exercise often enough. I blame any weight gain on Goldfish crackers, Dilly Bars, and the cold I had last week. My guess it that it did not change or a gained a little bit.

So that leaves setting new goals for the month of February, so here we go:

1) No Pizza in February - It is my biggest weekness. My food of choice. I will see if I can go a month without it. I have a deal with one of co-workers that they do not eat chips for a month. We put $20 on the line so if they eat chips or I eat pizza the other gets paid.

2) One run of 12.5 Km during the month. This will put me on pace for the 1/2 in May if I continue the same increase.

I think those are good to start. We will see how it goes for the month.

Two Years...

It has been two years since I started this blog. I can't believe that much time has gone by already.
It is interesting that as you get older a year becomes a smaller percentage of your total life and seems to go by so much quicker relative to a year when you were 5 years old. Think that when you were 5 a single year was 20% of your life. Relative to now when a year is less than 4% of my total life.

Well at least I find that interesting.

Also as a side note you may have noticed that my Km's have not been going up. This is mostly due to a litle bug/cold I have had early this week that forced me to miss some gym time.

The 75 Km in January goal is in jeopardy!

To Try Something Different

I decided that I wanted to try baking.

I made some Pillsbury cookie before Xmas that ended up ok so it got me thinking to maybe try something a little more difficult.

Well, not that much more difficult.

I do consider myself a reasonably good cook. I have whipped up some decent meals in the last few months since I start my change of lifestyle diet and exercise plan. I have invented my own type of enchiladas, in full and snack size versions. I make a mean smokie/pepperoni mushroom cream pasta sauce. I make pretty good potatoes in all shapes and degree of mash. I made an ok chicken fry last weekend, at least I thought it was OK.

Maybe Lola and Maddy have a more honest answer to that question?

So what does this all mean?

Well I decided to try a baked an apple crisp tonight.

I grabbed a recipe online and went to work. For those of you in the know apple crisp is a very easy thing to make. To spice it up a bit I was making a peanut butter apple crisp. I peeled about 4 large apple and I had bought a neat coring tool to slice them with. I added a bunch of stuff to a bowl, like oatmeal, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and added melted peanut butter and butter, and then put it all into a pie crust.

I have to admit that I didn't make the pie crust from scratch. I baked it for about 30 minutes and presto chango - Peanut Butter Apple Crisp!! I have tasted better but I was happy with myself that I made an edible dessert.

Well maybe Lola should be the judge of that?

January Quickly Running Out...

So January is quickly coming to a close. I believe I am doing well on a couple of my goals. Let's look at a quick recap:

Do a 10 Km session? Check
Do 5 Km in less than 29:00? Check
Do not weigh myself in January? Check
Do core twice a week? umm...

I am not doing so well with this one. I may actually do core twice this month but that is as much as I can guarantee. It is painful, I know. Total and unadulterated failure at this one.

I have no excuse.

I just find myself focusing on my running too much. I am trying to convince myself that after January and when I can weigh in again that I will start again but I think it is more realistic that I won't start lifting and core until after the 1/2 Marathon. So look out May, here I come.

In bigger news I won the Biggest Loser at work. I have to thank the 20 out of the 24 people who completely dropped out leaving me to duke it out with 4 people. My weight loss and Christmas gain was enough to take home the JACKPOT of $105.

I was pretty happy but disappointed that so many people dropped out.

Nothing else is really going on and time seems to go by so quickly.

Like the Planets Becoming Alligned

I find something curious about conspiracy theory. Stuff like did we really land on the moon or was it an elaborate hoax? What was the real reason behind the JFK assassination? Area 51? Why did Suzanne Somers leave 3's Company? It is all very interesting whether you believe any of the hype or not.

I now have my own conspiracy theory stemming from a couple events. There is a new Jim Carrey moving coming out called Number 23. It actually looks quite neat and seems to look like a theory how the Number 23 is a common element of a bunch of historical dates, for example, Sept. 11th, if you look at the date as 9/11/2001 and then sum all of the digits it adds up to 23 = 9+11+2+0+0+1.

Anyways, so with my curiosity in hand I googled the movie title and it brought up many search results as usual. Link to the official movie site, link to the movie on IMDB, link to the movie info on Wikipedia, and then something interesting. An actual article about the number 23 in wikipedia. This is where I made my discovery and the world really starts to make sense.

The number 23 is a big number in the world of white supremacy. This is because 'W' is the 23rd letter of the english alphabet. Obviously the 'W' represents the word 'white' and the further connection to then European decent. So that is interesting tidbit number one. This means nothing without some more information.

In Season 1 of Seinfeld there is the Episode where they all pile into the car and head to the mall and get lost in the parking garage. You know the one where Elaine has the goldfish in the plastic bag and George gets caught peeing by security. You may also remember in that episode that Kramer had bought an Air Conditioner. You may also remember that after walking around with it for awhile while looking for their car he decides to hide it is front of a park car so he doesn't have to carry it anymore and when they find the car they will come back and get it.

Can you remember where he hid it?

Check this out!!

He hides it at Purple 23.

That's right!! In number 23. In the number that is connected to white supremacy groups. Now given that Michael Richards was just exposed as a possible racist a few weeks ago in a Comedy Club this becomes a very interesting coincidence.

Could it be that the writers of Seinfeld knew this about Michael Richards all along and tried to let the rest of the world know, or did Michael Richards suggest that he should hide the Air Conditioner in stall number 23? We may never know.

That is my conspiracy theory.

I am Proud of Myself!!

I ran 10 Km on Friday in about 63 Minutes.

Is it bad that I feel reluctant to be proud of myself? I never really personally celebrate my accomplishments.

Maybe that will be my resolution this year - Being proud of myself!!

So I ran 10 Km on Friday!!!

Yeah Me!!! Boom-Sha-Laka-Laka!!!

Cole Always Goes to the Outside...

GOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAALLLLLLL!!!

Thanks seems better when I was Portuguese and commentating a Soccer game.

Anyways…

I tore up the treadmill yesterday and did a 28:52 5Km. That knocks one of the goals off the list. I am still confident that I can get below the 28:00 mark. It would be uncomfortably maybe, but I could do it.

I think I am getting better at this running thing.

I may even try to do 10 Km today.

That’s right!!

Two goals in two days!!

Be-otch!!

In with the New Year

So 2006 was pretty good to me. I feel like I accomplished a lot this year, especially personally in the last 4 months. I am really starting to look forward to the 1/2 Marathon in May and the Sun Run in April. I feel like I can really kick some butt and continue to meet my goals over the next few months and through the rest of the year.

I'm actually REALLY looking forward to the 1/2 Marathon. I don't know why. Maybe because it is something that I never thought I would do. I just really think it will be a really exciting day for me. I am going to be really nervous that week and especially that day. I am hoping to put together a big party that night and I'm going to get face-rubbing drunk that night. I think this will serve as one of the biggest accomplishments of my life, outside of being born, and maybe graduating from University.

One of the minor goals I have for the rest of the month of January is to not weigh myself. I have a problem. I have this complusive desire to weigh myself all the time. I think I am starting to understand how eating disorders get started. I would weigh myself at least twice a day and sometimes more.

It was crazy.

There were days when I would weigh myself in the morning before I went to work, weigh myself on the crazy scale at work, weigh myself when I got home from work, and then weigh myself before I went to bed. It was bad enough one night that I weighed myself with and without socks before I went to bed. I think it is getting just a little bit out of hand.

So today was my last official weigh-in on my home scale and clocked in at about 237. So am still below that crazy 240 mark. I promise that I will not weigh in again until Feb. 1st, 2007.

Ok - So that is the update for now.

Other goals for this month:

Run 75 KM in the remaining 3 weeks
Accomplish the 29:00 Minute 5Km
Do at least one 10 Km session
Do core body work outs at least 2 days a week

I think those are fair. Now it is time to go eat dinner.

Thank The Lord for the Night Time

It is really seems like a common sense thing. When you are driving somewhere would you rather drive at night, in the cold, dark night or in the day, filled with birds and sunny skies, and the endless possibilities that come with a warm sunshine?

Most people, without giving it a second thought, immediately answer that driving in the day is the only way to go.

Well I disagree and I think I finally figured out why.

My number one reason that I prefer to make the trip in the night time is that all the other drivers, especially the bad ones, prefer to go in the day. The night time usually means open roads. especially in bad weather it means I really only have to worry about my own driving and not the driving of the car that is beside me on the snowy corner. It is just me and my own mistakes. Plus with no one else on the road I can travel at my own speed and my margin for error is increased.

Hey, I have like two lanes all to myself. It is like living in the lap of luxury.

I can just go. I don't worry about big truck or rigs since I trust that they know what they are doing most of the time and usually and am only around them long enough drive past them.

I have found that most of the traffic stoppages and slowdowns occur during the day. On my way home last week from Vancouver to Invermere there wasn't a single problem during my night time drive across the Roger's Pass. Not a slow down to be had. My Uncle came through some of the same roads the next day and said he saw three accidents on the side of the road, including one that cause over 150 cars to be lined up in a stop waiting for a chance to get through.

You might say that if there is a problem their would be no one around to help be I disagree as we traveled the Trans-Canada and Coquilhalla Highways. These places never sleep so there will be someone along the way if something does happen so I don't worry about it too much.

The other thing I like about the night time driving is that you get to your destination and then you get to sleep and wake up for a full day, fresh and alert, rather than driving in during the afternoon only to drag your ass for the rest of the day. It is almost like giving yourself an extra day to visit. That sort of trade-off practically pays for itself.

So don't think the night time is such a bad time to travel. Unless you are a bad driver and then please go ahead and stick to driving in the day.

Oh, and make sure you have lots of washer fluid.

Yoikes!
